Skyrim!CiceroXReader: Cicero's Birdie
y/n=your name h/c=hair color e/c=eye color f/n=faction name

A crimson moon slowly began to rise over the horizon of the mountains in Skyrim. 'Time to go,' you thought, staring up at the blood moon, after all, it was your faction's symbol. You were a member of a faction that was related to the Dark Brotherhood. It was f/n, and it focused on secretly keeping the peace. No contracts to tell you who to kill, no dead corpse whispering into someone's mind to tell them who to go to, just killing whoever caused trouble. The only thing that held the f/n back, was the moon.
You only killed when a blood moon was out, for that was when the night stayed night longest, and people are uneasy. Tonight, you had to kill a certain fellow who threatened the peace of a town called Falkreath. You dreaded heading to Falkreath because that is where the last Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary hid. You were unsure as to the exact location of their hideout, but you knew that it was in that area. "Y/n, wait a minute!" You heard someone call out behind you.
You turned your head to find your 'best friend' running up to you, panting. "You know who... you're going up against, right?" He asked. "A crazy fool, who likes killing anyone who looks at him funny? Yeah." You began to turn back around when he grabbed your arm, "No, he's more than that... He's a member of the Dark Brotherhood. It will be assassin versus assassin. And whatever you do... don't mention the night mother." You smiled, pulled your arm away, and replied, "Aww, c'mon. Don't be like that, I've never got injured when one of their initiates came after us a few months ago. How can he be any different?" Your friend laughed, and you were on your way.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Cicero's POV*
'Oh, the listener wants me to come to his quarters! Oh what a wonderful task! Has the night mother said something referring to poor Cicero?' A jester hummed to himself, dancing through twists and turns of a cavern. Dark Brotherhood initiates and members were constantly entering and leaving the cave, each time covered in blood. 'If only Cicero could go and kill. But no, I need to ensure the Night Mother's protection.' Cicero continued to dance and weave through the halls until he came across a small, wooden door. He stopped, and took a deep breath. After a few seconds, he burst through, laughing and cackling in joy, "Oh Listener! Cicero heard that you wanted to speak with him! What can faithful Cicero do for you, oh great Listener!" He hopped over furniture, knocking over silverware and cups.
Before Cicero could continue his jests, the Listener placed his hand over Cicero's mouth. Mumbles escaped his mouth as he continued to try and praise the Listener. After realizing that nothing was getting across, he stopped moving and glanced at the Listener's hair. It was all worn and dirty. His face was covered in dry blood and mud. His clothes were torn in places, revealing his tanned body. "Cicero... listen for a moment. The Night Mother has been giving off more contracts than I can handle. We don't even have enough initiates for all of these contracts. We have just recently got this place rebuilt, and I have matters, and people, to attend to."
The Listener removed his hand from Cicero's open lips, Cicero's gaze never leaving the Listener's eyes. "Cicero, I have a contract for you. There's this girl, she's coming to Falkreath soon, and the Night Mother wants you to tend to her. She didn't make it clear as to what to do, so do whatever you feel is necessary. Do it quickly, and don't get us caught." Cicero's eyes grew in excitement, 'The Night Mother has heard poor Cicero! Yes, yes yes! I get to kill again! Oh the Night Mother won't be disappointed!' "Oh thank you, thank you! Thank you Listener! I'll make sure she bleeds all over the stony road, and the soil turns crimson from her own juices!" With that, Cicero rushed out of the Listener's room, and down the many halls, singing. "Cicero! Ah, the fool. I guess he'll do better knowing that she's not a part of f/n..." The Listener muttered.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Your POV*
You walked along the road leading to your destination, staring at the crimson moon, now barely rising over the mountainous ridge. You heard a ghostly roar off in the distance, and then thundering booms, 'The Dragonborn doing his job... If he wasn't a part of the Dark Brotherhood, he would be perfect with us.' A little ways ahead of you, you saw a dark figure walking your way. Upon closer examination you noticed he was dressed in a jester's outfit. He was dancing back and forth, humming. 'This must be my guy. Talk about crazy...' You thought to yourself. Not wanting to draw attention, you passed him, and pulled out your weapon.  It was a large, glass dagger that you kept strapped to your side at all times.
You turned around, your knife held high over your head, and noticed the fool doing the same with his ebony dagger. 'Shit,' you cursed yourself, 'well, he is a part of the Dark Brotherhood... I'll give him that.' Quickly, you jumped away and dodged behind a tree. 'I think I've seen this guy before... Carrying a large casket... That could've been their Night Mother...' "Come out, sweet little maiden. Cicero was just playing with the little birdie. Come, and fly into my blade." The jester, Cicero, giggled. You heard his footsteps run around the tree, and the two of you danced, two blades slicing for each other's hearts.
"You're... quite skilled... Hyaa!" You shouted, aiming for his shoulder. Cicero, being more agile than he appears to be, dodged and began to laugh crazily, "Oh it's been a while! How long as it been since Cicero's tasted the blood of someone else?! Oh he's lost track... but nonetheless! Cicero will end your life here!" The crimson moon slowly rose over the dark sky, watching the two assassins fighting the game of death. You were beginning to get tired, but it appeared to be the same for Cicero. "Tell me... why you attacked me... Cicero?" He gave a puzzled glance as he sliced for your throat. "Why else! The Night Mother chose Cicero to kill you! Why did you attack poor Cicero, who was just dancing around the road?!"
You dodged his attack, causing his ebony dagger to nip your back. Your spine began to sting a little, and a trail of crimson fell down your black clothes. From your angle, you had a good opening at his abdomen. Cicero jumped away, but you still sliced a small cut along his stomach. “Well, you threaten the peace. I don't like killing, but if it's to keep peace, well I'll kill cities for that sake!"  Before you realized it, Cicero had wrapped his leg around yours, causing you to trip. In a last moment reaction, you grabbed his jester shirt and pulled him to your side on the cold ground.
When the two of you fell, his blade plunged itself into your calf. You gave off a wince of pain as Cicero began to stand up again. 'I'm... done for...' You thought to yourself. Your glass dagger was nowhere to been seen, your calf throbbing in pain from the blade sticking out of it. 'Why is he just standing there?! Damn this is torture...' You stared up at the assassin’s eyes, trying to read what his thoughts were. Damn your leg was in pain. You saw him pull something out from behind him, and recognized it as your glass dagger. 'He got it! Now he's going to make me break before killing me... huh.... Never...' You continued to glare at him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Cicero's POV*
"Well," The little maiden said, "you threaten the peace. I don't like killing, but if it's to keep peace, well I'll kill cities for that sake!" Cicero didn't understand what she meant by this. Peace... what was peace? Was it no war? Was it no one after the Mother? What was it? Cicero wrapped his leg around y/n's leg, and tripped her, but she dragged Cicero with her. When they fell, Cicero's head smashed on a rock, and then he heard something pierce flesh, and heard y/n wince. 'Damn, she's good. She got ol' Cicero breathing hard! This is the best battle Cicero has fought in forever! Too bad her blade landed behind me...' Cicero pulled out your dagger and began to stare at you. 'Her h/c hair and e/c eyes are so strange. They seem to reflect the moon... This kill must be remembered...' Cicero pulled his arm back, and aimed for your chest.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Your POV*
You watched as Cicero pulled your dagger back behind his head when you noticed something blocking the blood moon charging for the two of you. Your mind flashed back to when you were a little girl. You were only (younger age) at the time, when you first experienced death. You and your brother were playing in the field before he left for work when an arrow fell from above and pierced the back of his skull. You screamed and ran for help, and saw your entire house erupted in flames, and a large dragon circling around your now destroyed home. Back in reality, you found an unknown strength in your punctured calf and jumped for Cicero, pushing him to the ground under you.
Frost exploded over your body, freezing your back and the ground around you and Cicero. A monstrous blue dragon swooped past the two of you, roaring in triumph. You had forgotten about Cicero under you, and sat your head down in relief. When your head bumped with his, your eyes opened and you jumped away, only to fall back on your rear. 'Fuck! I'm not bleeding, am I? Why did I do that?!' You began searching your body for cuts, frantically making sure that your blade wasn't buried under any of your clothing.
You were so preoccupied that you hadn't noticed Cicero sit up, dumbfounded at your action. "Why did the little bird save the hawk? Cicero admits though, he did like your action however..." He began mumbling to himself while you fidgeted, looking for an escape. "Well..."you replied, spotting your dagger off to his right, "I was reminded of something that happened a long time ago... I thought I'd make up for my mistake..." You made eye contact with Cicero, who seemed to be staring at you in sadness. "What?" "Cicero just realized that you remind him of someone he knew long ago, too. Oh how much I want to keep you as a pet, but the Mother told me to tend to you. Aw darned it all!" Cicero then began arguing with what appeared to be nothing.
"Tend? She didn't say kill?" This confused you. The Night Mother always said to kill the targets, not 'Tend' to them. "Oh, that's right! The Night Mother wanted poor Cicero to tend to the little maiden bird. Cicero promised not to disappoint her! Oh but she didn't say kill, oh no she didn't indeed! You're right, oh beautiful bird." He began scaring you now. He was once again dancing, laughing and smiling. 'He does indeed threaten the peace... The peace of everyone's mind...' You thought. Before you knew it however, Cicero was over you, pulling his dagger from your calf, making you cry out in pain.
He then placed his hand over your mouth, stopping your wails, "Quiet, my pet! I'm taking you home, and we'll take care of Mother together! Oh yes! Yes! Come along, the Listener will be pleased!" He pulled you up into his arms, and ran back the direction he came from, paying little heed to the frost dragon hovering over the forest on your left. ‘The dragonborn better get that thing... it's his job not the f/n's.' Then, out of nowhere, you felt tired. Slowly, you drifted to sleep in the jester's arms.

                   In the Falkreath Sanctuary...
You heard a raspy voice ask a question, and Cicero's cheery voice answering it. "Welcome, home." Was the only clear thing you heard. You opened your eyes and was greeted by the throbbing in your calf again. You winced, and Cicero looked down at you, "Oh, the bird is awake! Oh wonderful! Cicero was worried when you passed out and didn't respond to me... But you were still breathing, so Cicero continued to hum to the birdie!" Your back distracted you from what Cicero was saying, the frost dragon's breath did its toll on your spinal cord. You saw walls and banners, and the faces of different initiates that you've engaged in battle with before. You felt Cicero remove a hand from under you, and then you heard a door open.
Cicero then dropped you on a bed, and began scavenging through cabinets. A large coffin with a corpse inside explained who's room you  were in. He pulled out some potions and rags, and danced over to your limp leg. "Please be still and quite, beautiful bird. You've been so good so far, so please be still for Cicero!" "Sure... Why not..." You whimpered, "I don't have a choice... do I?" Despite his murderous ways, and crazy mind, he seemed to be gentle with your calf. He carefully poured healing potions over the wound and wrapped it in bandages, and turned your around for your back. He began clicking his tongue, and started humming to himself again.
This time, when he poured the potion on your back, it stung beyond belief. Your fingers began to curl, and you shoved your head into the pillow in front of you. Magica was always hard to tolerate. Especially for assassins who rely on stealth and shadow more than the arcane arts. "Shhh... Birdie, Birdie, it's alright. Cicero's mending your wounds so you'll fly with me. Cicero is taking care of his bird." After a moment, he turned you back around and removed your black, bloody shirt. "Don't need your wounds getting infected. Cicero doesn't need his pet getting sick now." After he pulled your shirt off, you noticed the wound you gave him, "What about your wound?"
Cicero smiled and left the room. When he returned, he had clean rags and bandages wrapped around his chest and abdomen. "What are you doing?" You asked wearily. "You have blood all over your pretty face, birdie! Cicero's blood at that, so he has to clean it off. And the Listener wants to meet you once you're all clean. Don't worry though, Cicero will keep you safe. Listener can get awfully scary and mean to poor Cicero." He began mumbling to himself again. When the rag touched your face, you were relieved to his light, gentle touch. It soothed you, reminded you of home whenever you'd get your face all muddy.
"Cicero... you don't hate me for being a part of f/n?" You asked, curious as to what his answer would be. "No, Cicero couldn't truly hate anyone. Cicero only hates people who hurt the Night Mother. Cicero hates the people Mother and Sithis wants dead. Mother didn't want you dead though, Cicero is happy! Cicero has a pet now," he began streaking your hair, and you felt a smile spread across your lips, "and a pretty pet at that." For the first time, the jester was quiet, and you felt at ease. He began getting closer and closer to you before the door opened, causing Cicero to jump back and continue cleaning your face. 'I guess I could get used to being Cicero's little birdie... Heh...'
Here we are. I've been debating as to what type of XReader I should make, and so I decided to make a Skyrim one. Here, we have our little Cicero, Nyaa! I hope you like it...

Skyrim and Cicero belongs to Bethesda

In Skyrim, since it had been so long since the Dark Brotherhood was almost wiped out, they had stopped following the tenets, thanks to Astrid, and whoever came before her. So killing other Assassin's sent from the brotherhood has no meaning anymore.

I know that but I still feel bad ;-; Because I still followed the Tenets a bit. And I think, once you finish the main quests in the Dark Brotherhood, they decide to restore the Tenets and all of that.

Yeah, I hope so. The real difference between the dark brotherhood and a random group of assassins, besides the night mother, was the tenets.

Just glad they didn't punish the listener had they killed an assassin sent after them before. I mean, it was in self defense.
